Army, police team in hot pursuit vs sawmill attackers

LAOAG CITY, March 3 — A joint police and military team has launched a hot pursuit operation against a band of fully armed men believed to be from the New People's Army (NPA) who burned several heavy equipment of a sawmill based in Barangay Usol, Jones, Isabela last Thursday.

A report reaching here showed that at least 18 armed men wearing camouflage fatigue uniform attacked at 5:00 p.m. that day the Alliance Sawmill Company.

The report quoting Col. Miguel T. Puyao, spokesman of the Army’s 5th Division based in Gamu, Isabela, said the incident was perpetrated by the armed men who introduced themselves as NPA rebels.

The attackers burned several equipment of the company such as generator set, a road grader, a loader, a dump truck, four forklifts, a 6×6 truck, a crane, and a band saw.

Puyao said that after the burning, the suspects fled immediately on board a van.

The estimated value of the burned equipment was not immediately known. (PNA)
