DND names new legal head

MANILA, March 2 – The Department of National Defense (DND) on Friday named Atty. Cherrie B. Belmonte-Lim as the new chief of the Office for Legal Services.

Effective through Department Order No. 25, dated Feb. 10, 2012, Belmonte-Lim took over the post left by now Assistant Secretary for Acquisitions, Installations and Logistics Patrick Velez.

Belmonte-Lim is a Senior Partner of the Soriano, Torresyap, Belmonte Law Office. She was the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) director of the Procurement & Logistics Service of the Department of Health (DOH) in 1998; and a former Legislative Staff Officer VI at the Senate of the Philippines from 1997 to 1998.

The new Chief OLS graduated from the University of the Philippines with a degree in BS Statistics in 1986 and completed her Bachelor of Laws in 1993 from the UP College of Law. She holds a Master’s degree in National Security Administration, a Lieutenant Colonel (Reservist) for the Philippine Air Force; and a member of the GHQ Technical Battalion, Technical Services Brigade of the Armed Forces Reserve Command (AFRESCOM).

Belmonte-Lim is currently the director of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Quezon City Chapter, and was awarded with the Outstanding Service Award (Director 2007-2009). She also served as Commissioner of the Commission on Bar Discipline, Integrated Bar of the Philippines from April 2007 to June 2010.

Belmont-Lim hails from Nabua, Camarines Sur, married to husband Calvin and blessed with two children. (PNA) RMA/JCA
