MANILA, Feb. 18 – Valenzuela City in northern Metro Manila and Altavas municipality in Aklan in Western Visayas signed a sisterhood and promotion of trade and investment agreement early this week.

Valenzuela Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian and Altavas Mayor Denny D. Refols signed the pact in behalf of their respective constituents at the social hall of the host city of Valenzuela.

“This twinning relationship could be greatly influential in transforming some marginalized sectors into a productive business mechanism,” Gatchalian said.

Named as the best performing city by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Valenzuela continues to seek for effective technology transfers enhanced by agricultural productivity to generate more livelihood and employment opportunities.

Altavas is at par with this livelihood advocacy since the launching of Farmers Information and Technology Service in the locality in 2009.

On economic development strategies, the sister-localities agreed to undertake enterprise development activities for sustainable development.

Altavas has manifested its ambitious platform by collaborating with Germany’s co-sponsored “Small and Medium Enterprise Development for Sustainable Employment Program," a development project oriented to optimize resources for holistic economic growth. (PNA) scs/PFN
