MANILA, Jan. 26 -– Senator Lito Lapid admitted on Thursday that the reports on the arrest of his wife, Marissa, in Las Vegas over the alleged misdeclared dollar currency has saddened him even as revealed his wife’s readiness to defend herself.

”What happened really saddened me but my wife is ready to answer whatever issue involving her arrest,” Lapid said in a press statement.

Lapid said his wife has already hired a lawyer to make proper representations on her behalf.

”We are waiting for updates from her lawyers and it would be proper to wait first for the information from them,” Lapid said.

Lapid’s wife was reportedly arrested shortly after her landing in Las Vegas last Jan. 15 in connection with the dollar smuggling charges filed against her after she was accosted at the international airport there last November.

Marissa Lapid was released on bail but will remain in Las Vegas pending the resolution of the case involving the alleged smuggling of $ 50,000 in cash.

The US laws allow anyone to carry money of less than 10,000 dollars only but US Customs officials at the Las Vegas airport reportedly seized 50,000 dollars in cash from the senator’s wife. (PNA)
