Comelec files electoral sabotage case vs Abalos

MANILA, Jan. 25 — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) filed on Wednesday before the Pasay Regional Trial Court (RTC) several counts of electoral sabotage charges against the poll body's former Chairman Benjamin Abalos for alleged manipulation of the 2007 senatorial election results in South Cotabato province.

Former provincial election supervisor Lilian Radam was also charged for allegedly conspiring with Abalos in tampering with the results.

The Comelec earlier filed an electoral sabotage case against its former commissioner on the alleged manipulation of the poll results in North Cotabato.

Those votes allegedly tampered with were for senatorial bets under the Team Unity ticket, including that of senators Edgardo Angara, Ralph Recto, Joker Arroyo, Tito Sotto and Mike Defensor, Juan Miguel Zubiri, among others.

Electoral sabotage case is a non-bailable offense. (PNA) rsv/RMA/jmc/utb
