3 killed in mine blast in Myanmar's northernmost state

YANGON, Jan. 19 — Three people have been killed and another seriously injured in a mine blast in Myanmar's northernmost Kachin state, official media reported Thursday.

Of the three villagers who stepped on the mine allegedly planted by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), two were killed on the spot on Tuesday, while the other died of critical injuries on the way to hospital, reported the New Light of Myanmar.

The three met with the mishap when getting off an express bus which stopped for a while for the passengers to get relaxed on the way from Phakant to Mogaung.

In a separate incident, a man from Lonkhin village in the Phakant township also stepped on a mine on a road 50 meters away from a village primary school and injured his left calf seriously, the report added. (PNA/Xinhua) FFC/jnc
