Police official says no mining in Northern Iloilo

ILOILO CITY, Jan. 17 – The police have denied talks on the alleged illegal mining activities in a town in Northern Iloilo.

C/Supt. Cipriano E. Querol, Jr., director of Police Regional Office 6, said it is not true that a mining operation exists in Carles, Iloilo.

"There is no truth in it. We have verified the information with the Chief of Police and he confirmed that it was not mining," Querol said.

The issue stemmed from the report received by Carles Police Station from a certain Hermenio Villanueva last January 7 that a group of persons was digging holes in Igkalayo Island, Barangay Bancal, Carles.

The investigation revealed that Villanueva owned the place where the group was digging. He, however, refused to take legal action against this group for intruding in his property but advised them to stop digging and leave the place.

The group was allegedly engaged in treasure hunting activity. (PNA) LAP/AJP/vlo
