MANILA, Jan. 13 – Another batch of 74 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who availed of the mandatory repatriation program of the government arrived from Syria on Friday.

The group planed in at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) via Qatar Airways flight QR646 at 3:30 p.m. and was met by Overseas Worker Welfare Administrator (OWWA) Carmelita Dimzon.

Dimzon said that a composite team of Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Labor and Employment and OWWA officials negotiated the release of the OFWs from their respective employers.

“Exit clearances were issued to the workers after the employers agreed to let the workers leave Syria. More repatriates are expected to arrive in the next few days with more registrants expected to flock to the Philippine embassy in Damascus in the coming days,” Dimzon said.

Some 570 OFWs have been repatriated from Syria since March 2011. (PNA) scs/OTO/utb
