ZAMBOANGA CITY, Jan. 12 – Zamboanga del Norte Gov. Rolando Yebes has ordered the construction of additional bio-fertilizer mixing plants in the province.

Yebes issued the order as he noted a continuous increase in the demand for organic fertilizer by farmers in the different areas of the province.

Yebes has ordered the allocation of P10 million to finance the construction of the additional bio-fertilizer mixing plants in the different municipalities.

Zamboanga del Norte, which is basically an agriculture province, comprises two cities and 25 municipalities.

Yebes has ordered Provincial Agriculturist Maybel Bustalino to identify the areas where the bio-fertilizer mixing plants could be the built.

Yebes added the bio-fertilizer mixing plants should be accessible to the farmers.

Bustalino disclosed the farmers in the province opted to use organic fertilizer as price of commercial fertilizer continues to increase.

The price of commercial fertilizer for fruit-bearing vegetables is pegged at P1,320 while leafy vegetables cost P785, Bustalino said.

The provincial government is also planning to buy animal manure from the villages to be used in bio-fertilizer production, Bustalino said. (PNA) LAP/Teofilo P. Garcia/mec
