URDANETA CITY, Jan. 7 — A public school teacher is now in hot water after she allegedly tried to bribe agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) who earlier arrested her cousin for illegal drugs on the night of January 3.

The school teacher was identified as Jenny Reyes, 34, of the Badipa Elementary School in Urdaneta City who was charged with the crime of corruption of public authorities.

Investigation showed that few hours after her cousin Rizaldo Paragua, 54, was arrested by PDEA operatives in a buy-bust operation for illegal drugs, Reyes went to the PDEA office and tried to hand over money in the amount of P10,000 to secure the release of Paragua.

A report said when she did this, she was under the influence of liquor. In the CCTV camera, she was caught counting the money before PDEA agents she intended to bribe.

After she was charged in court, Reyes promptly posted a bail of P30,000.

But Reyes could be in further trouble. Being a public school teacher, the Department of Education is now studying on whether it may initiate an administrative case against her for her actuation unbecoming of a government employee. (PNA) scs/lvm/lvmicua/rma
