MANILA, Jan. 4 — The Low Pressure Area (LPA) east southeast of General Santos City is expected to dissipate within 24 to 48 hours while widespread rains will prevail over the eastern section of Visayas and whole of Mindanao.

Antonio Soriaga, a weather observer from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), said this as the LPA is approaching land.

Soriaga said northeast monsoon (amihan) is affecting Luzon, causing rainfall over the whole island.

He said since the northeast monsoon will still prevail in the next few days, light rains are expected over Luzon including Metro Manila.

PAGASA has issued alerts on the widespread rains may be brought about by the LPA in Eastern Visayas and Mindanao. The weather bureau said moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, winds will be moderate to occasionally strong coming from the Northeast to North with moderate to occasionally rough seas. (PNA)
