DAVAO CITY, Jan. 3 -– Three schools here recently received accreditation from the Bureau of Immigration (BI) to accept foreign students.

Lawyer Nimfa Edroso, BI-Davao officer-in-charge, said the Tumble Tots International Preschool, Institute of International Culinary and Hospitality Entrepreneurship (ICHEF) and Joji IIagan Career Center Foundation (JIBCCF) College of Business and Tourism were duly accredited since October last year.

Edroso said BI-Davao has also urged the schools to properly screen the documents presented by the students.

He said the school cannot admit foreigners for enrollment unless they have the required visa or study permit from the BI student desk.

A memorandum order, which was issued earlier by BI Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. said a student visa is issued to foreigners, at least 18 years old, who will be taking up a course higher than high school at a university, seminary, college, or school duly authorized to admit foreign students.

The new guidelines also provide that only schools accredited by the BI, Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher Education (CHEd), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and Federation of Accrediting Agencies (FAA) are authorized to accept foreign students.

On the other hand, JIBCCF chair Joji Ilagan-Bian said even the Tumble Tots in Manila and JIBCCF College of Business and Tourism in General Santos City are also BI accredited.

Along with this, she said they ensure that the foreign students from their schools have valid documents to study or stay in the country. (PNA) DCT/ldp/DDB
