MANILA, Jan. 2 — Supreme Court (SC) Spokesman and Court Administrator Atty. Jose Midas Marquez on Monday said that he has no information about the alleged early retirement of two incumbent SC Associate Justices this year.

”UST (University of Santo Tomas) has answered and we have to respect the academic freedom of UST,” Marquez told reporters in a press conference.

It was earlier reported that SC Chief Justice Renato Corona was granted a PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) allegedly without the required “dissertation”.

”Let’s put to rest the issue. It comes at the most interesting time. Maybe it’s part of the issue,” Marquez said. (PNA) DCT/PTR/utb
