MANILA, Oct. 28 – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) will be on a heightened alert during the long weekend as it intensifies its anti-drug operations in strategic locations especially during the observance of All Saints Day.

PDEA Director General Jose S. Gutierrez, Jr., issued a directive to all PDEA regional offices nationwide to step-up anti-drug operations within their respective jurisdiction to counter illegal drug activities during the period.

Gutierrez also said drug groups and personalities were bound to take advantage of the occasion to transport illegal drugs from one place to another.

“We cannot discount the possibility that with the influx of people going home to provinces to honor their departed, illegal drug groups and personalities will capitalize on the frenzy during the holidays to perpetrate their business. That is why I have ordered heightened anti-drug alert in all [PDEA] regional offices,” Gutierrez said.

PDEA regional directors were instructed to coordinate with local law enforcement units to intensify operations in airports, seaports, major transport terminals, tourist or recreational spots and even in cemeteries.

PDEA K-9 units will also be deployed in selected locations to augment anti-drug operations where needed.

The directive further includes the mobilization of a 24-hour action team to immediately act on reports and complaints related to illegal drug activities. (PNA) RMA/JCA
