Central Luzon LGUs perform well on good governance

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Oct. 26 –Local government units (LGUs) in Central Luzon are doing an impressive performance in terms of good governance practices.

A total of 122 LGUs in the region have been recognized with different local government awards and incentives during the recent Regional Awarding of LGU Champions held in Clark.

Of the 122 LGU awardees, 100 were awarded with the Seal of Good Housekeeping, 19 were given the Performance Challenge Fund for their development projects, and three others have been declared as regional Gawad Pamana ng Lahi winners.

DILG Secretary Jessie Robredo, during the awarding ceremony, has congratulated Central Luzon as most of the SGH recipients, 100 out of the 866 SGH awardees nationwide, came from the region.

Robredo said the provinces and municipalities in the region would not be left behind in the demonstration of an honest and efficient governance.

He urged all the local chief executives of the SGH/PCF/GPL recipients and awardees to sustain their efforts towards making their LGUs attain a more transparent, accountable, responsive and participative governance.

On the other hand, he encouraged other LGUs to strive for better performance in order for them to qualify for the SGH and avail of the development assistance from the P6 Billion fund to be released by the Office of the President.

DILG Regional Director Florida Dijan identified the GPL regional winners as the province of Bulacan, City of San Fernando (Pampanga) and the Municipality of Llanera (Nueva Ecija) for the provincial, city and municipal category, respectively.

First runners up include Nueva Ecija, San Jose City (Nueva Ecija) and the Municipality of San Felipe (Zambales) while second runners up are Tarlac province, Palayan City (Nueva Ecija) and the Municipality of Plaridel (Bulacan).

The LGU awarding was held in conjunction with the Regional Partnership Workshop on Localizing Good Governance and Poverty Reduction, conducted in line with the 20th year celebration of the Local Government Code of 1991 and gains of local autonomy. (PNA) <>br>DCT/LAM/zst/FEM/ps
