MANILA, Oct. 4 -– Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz has approved the release of an initial P3 million assistance to Bulacan residents who were affected by the flooding brought by recent typhoons.

Baldoz said the amount will be used as payment for workers that will be hired under the department's emergency employment program.

“The initial amount of P3 million will be used to pay for the wages of not less than a thousand workers/heads of families in Hagonoy, Calumpit, Obando, and Paombong for two weeks,” Baldoz said.

She said the emergency employment will be sourced from the "Tulong Panghanapbuhay para sa mga Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD)" program to help workers recover from emergencies and natural calamities.

The department has tied up with the Bulacan provincial government and local government units (LGUs) of the four towns.

Baldoz said the LGUs have provided a counterpart of P100,000 for the emergency employment program.

DOLE Regional Director Leopoldo de Jesus said the beneficiaries will be employed to conduct massive clean-up and repair of damaged roads, schools, barangay halls, municipal halls, and other government facilities.

Meanwhile, Baldoz has also ordered for the release of P930,000 in emergency employment assistance for victims of typhoon "Mina" in the Ilocos region.

“This is the initial amount that the DOLE Regional Office has requested to pay for the wages of 375 farmers and fisherman in 15 municipalities of Pangasinan, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and La Union this October,” Baldoz said.

The workers to be employed will come from Calasiao, Sta. Barbara, Labrador, San Carlos City and Laoac in Pangasinan; San Vicente and Sta. Catalina in Ilocos Sur; Pasuquin, Bacarra, San Nicolas, Solsona, Dingras, Laoag City and Paoay in Ilocos Norte; and Aringay in La Union. (PNA)
