WEATHER: Tropical storm 'Quiel' enters PAR — PAGASA (w/ photo)

MANILA, Sept. 29 — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday said the tropical storm east of Northern Luzon has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and was named "Quiel" (international code name: Nalgae).

PAGASA said that as of 4 a.m. Thursday, "Quiel" was located based on satellite and surface data at 1,240 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan, with coordinates: 18.3°N, 134.8°E with maximum sustained winds of 105 km. per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph. It is forecast to move westward at 10 kph.

By Friday morning, PAGASA said, "Quiel" is expected to be 1,050 km. east of Aparri, Cagayan; by Saturday morning, 750 km. east of Aparri, Cagayan; and on Sunday morning, 400 km. east of Aparri, Cagayan.

The weather agency has not raised public storm warning signals.
