DSWD releases P7.76M relief assistance for victims of Typhoon ‘Pedring’

MANILA, Sept. 29 — A total of P7.76 million worth of relief assistance were provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to local government units (LGUs) affected by Typhoon "Pedring."

Likewise, some P2 million have been released to DSWD Field Office 3 and P500,000 to DSWD Field Office 1 for the purchase of relief goods to be distributed to affected LGUs in the regions.

As of 6 a.m. Thursday, the DSWD reported that some 141,772 families with 648,485 persons from the National Capital Region (NCR), Regions 1, 2, 3, 4-A and B, 5 and the Cordillera Administrative Region have been affected.

To date, the agency said 396 evacuation centers in the affected regions continue to serve 34,801 families while 8,873 families outside evacuation centers are also being provided with relief assistance.

Reports from DSWD regional offices showed that some 10,078 houses were damaged, with 1,977 totally damaged while 8,101 were partially destroyed.

In the NCR, 16,009 families composed of 71,935 persons from 76 barangays, 11 cities and the municipality of Pateros were affected.

One hundred twenty-four evacuation centers were opened and are providing temporary shelter to 11,035 families with 52,048 persons. DSWD social workers are assisting the social workers of the affected LGUs in the assessment on needs and master listing of the affected and displaced families.

The DSWD-NCR has provided P612,000 worth of relief assistance to the affected LGUs.

In Region 2, some 32,389 families with 132,418 persons from the 238 barangays and 32 municipalities, two cities in four provinces have been displaced.

The 14 evacuation centers set-up at the onset of the typhoon continue to serve 225 families with 916 persons, while 8,678 families with 41,401 persons who are still staying with their relatives are also being served. DSWD Field Office II provided P1.5M worth of augmentation assistance to the affected LGUs.

In Region 3, some 43,365 families with 197,073 persons from Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac have been affected. The region set-up 147 evacuation centers serving 14,143 families with 66,407 persons.

In Region 4-A, some 23,878 families composed of 118,526 persons were affected. The DSWD 4-A immediately provided P682,000 worth of assistance to affected LGUs in Rizal and Cavite.

In Region 4-B, 2,081 families composed of 10,392 persons from Occidental Mindoro and Romblon were displaced. Five evacuation centers are providing shelter to some 597 families with 2,972 persons.

In CAR, some 2,946 families with 15,047 persons were affected. Family-evacuees who sought temporary shelter in four evacuation centers have returned to their homes.

DSWD Secretary Corazon Soliman has ordered all DSWD social workers in the affected regions to continue to coordinate with concerned LGUs for the provision of additional relief assistance when necessary. (PNA)
