MANILA, April 12 – With the expected influx of travellers to the provinces during the coming Holy Week, Negros Navigation Corporation (NENACO), the country's oldest shipping lines, has announced that it is boosting its security so that the safety of its passenger clients can be assured.

NENACO spokesman Gian Carlo Galvez said they have increased the number of security personnel to conduct stricter inspections at their terminals.

Galvez said they are also using more X-ray machines to inspect baggage and K-9s to detect bombs, drugs and contraband.

As this develops, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) urged seagoing passengers not to bring with them air guns and bladed weapons during their Lenten trip to the provinces.

The PCG also exhorted the riding public not to patronize "colorum" shipping operators. (PNA)
