MANILA, March 30 – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said Wednesday its military counterparts in Pakistan have arrested suspected terrorist Omar Patek, a high-ranking Jemaah Islamiyah member.

AFP spokesman Brig. Gen. Jose Mabanta said Patek, whose real name is Anis Alawi Jaffar, was arrested together with a Pakistani associate who was presumed to be harboring him in that south Asian country.

Mabanta said Patek is believed to be involved in various terrorist attacks, including the 2002 and 2005 Bali bombings, 2004 Australian Embassy bombing and 2009 Marriott/Ritz Carlton Hotel bombings in Jakarta, Indonesia.

According to Mabanta, the 40-year-old Patek imparted his skills with the Abu Sayyaf Group members in using improvised explosive device (IED) while hiding in the Philippines after the 2002 bombing in Bali, Indonesia. (PNA)
