The orchid breed “Ascocenda Benigno S Aquino III” is a hybrid of the Vanda Motes Toledo Blue and Ascocenda Dhongchai Pusavat. The Singaporean government conferred on President Aquino the honor of having an orchid breed named after him, a courtesy accorded to visiting heads of state. Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista distributes financial relief assistance to the city’s overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who have been displaced by the escalating tension in Libya. To alleviate their plight, the city government appropriated P1 million for the grant of P5,000 to each of the OFWs. Aside from the cash assistance, the city government will also provide a package of services and programs to cushion the impact of their employment dislocation.
