6.2-magnitude earthquake hits South Island of New Zealand

BEIJING, Feb. 22 — An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter Scale jolted South Island of New Zealand at 7:51 a.m. Beijing Time Tuesday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter, with a depth of 10 kilometers, was monitored at 43.4 degrees south latitude and 172.7 degrees east longitude, the center said. (PNA/Xinhua)
