MANILA, Jan. 28 – Quezon City Regional Trial Court (QCRTC) Branch 215 Judge Luisa Padilla will handle the trial of two suspects in the recent slaying of car dealer Venson Evangelista.

This developed after a raffle took place at the QC Hall of Justice even as the suspected gang leader in the case, Raymond Dominguez, underwent preliminary investigation Friday.

Judge Padilla’s staff said the homicide charges against Alfred Mendiola and Batibot Parulan will be heard tentatively on Feb. 1.

Mendiola and Parulan surrendered to the authorities last weekend, with Mendiola pointing to Dominguez as the mastermind of the crime.

The case stemmed from the disappearance of Evangelista last Jan. 13 while on a road test of a Land Cruiser he was selling to a prospective unidentified buyer.

Evangelista's charred and brutalized body was found in Nueva Ecija the next day.

The indictment indicated no bail was recommended for Mendiola and Parulan, who surrendered to the authorities a week after Evangelista’s murder was confirmed.

The indictment was based on a resolution penned by Assistant City Prosecutor Solivan Usman and approved by Meynardo Bautista Jr., the inquest division chief.

Parulan and Mendiola underwent inquest proceedings on Saturday night, during which the police charged them with kidnapping with murder and car theft. (PNA) scs/JCA
