MANILA, Jan. 16 – The Church-based poll watchdog Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) has expressed confidence on the capabilities of newly-appointed Chairman Sixto Brillantes of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

With this, PPCRV Chairperson Henrietta De Villa asked the new head of the poll body to reorganize the commission to be able to make it more efficient.

“What is important for the PPCRV is that there is some kind of reorganization within the Comelec to make it more efficient, more ready to answer to the challenges posed by elections nowadays,” she said.

The PPCRV head said the new Comelec chief should make sure that they prepare well for the next automated polls so as not to repeat the problems encountered in the May 10, 2010 elections.

“They must be able to prepare well so that those glitches will not happen and to put more safeguards in place,” she added.

President Benigno S. Aquino III appointed Brillantes on Saturday as replacement of Comelec Chairman Jose Melo who retired on the same day, two weeks earlier than the original Jan. 31 schedule. (PNA) scs/FGP/utb
