MIDSAYAP, North Cotabato, Jan. 8 — Two government anti-poverty projects to uplift the poor from poverty were launched here by North Cotabato First District Rep. Jesus N. Sacdalan yesterday.

Sacdalan led the awarding of a capital seed fund to qualified members of Self-Employment Assistance-Kaunlaran (SEA-K) associations.

A check of P150,000 each were awarded by Sacdalan to 36 SEA-K associations through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) XII.

DSWD-12 Regional Director Bai Zorahayda Taha stressed that the program was part of the government efforts to abate poverty.

Expressing support for programs of Rep. Sacdalan, Taha said her office is always a willing partner in programs that would help fight poverty.

On the same day, a Memorandum on Agreement (MOA) was also signed between the Office of Rep. Sacdalan and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PHIC).

"The MOA signing was relevant and meaningful to begin the new year," PhilHealth regional vice-president Ramon Aristoza, Jr. said.

Sacdalan thanked the support of DSWD 12 and PhilHealth-12 to uplift the living conditions of his constituents.

Sacdalan said his chairmanship in the House’s special committee on peace, reconciliation and being vice-chairman of the House’s food security committee are anchored on opening access to livelihood opportunities for the Cotabateños to ensure better life for them in the first legislative district.

"A peaceful mind leads to a peaceful and orderly community,” Sacdalan said.

During Sacdalan’s incumbency as governor of North Cotabato, the universal coverage status was awarded to the province where the bulk of indigent families have been enrolled under the sponsored program of the local government unit.

The health insurance concept was first established during the term of then North Cotabato Gov. Emmanuel Pinol.

The program was so famous that other provinces in Mindanao sought the former governor's expertise in coming up with the program.

North Cotabato Gov. Emmylou Lala Talino-Mendoza is also instituting reforms in the health insurance program to make it more affordable to poor families of the province. (PNA)
