(Metro News) QC to bid out MWSS real estate properties

MANILA, Nov. 6 – The Quezon City government will auction this December the real estate properties owned by the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) in the city.

This developed after the QC government received a favorable ruling from the Court of Appeals (CA).

“We will definitely include these properties in the December auction,” said city treasurer Edgar Villanueva.

The city treasurer said his office was already in the process of reviving the warrant of levy issued by the city government sometime in 2006.

CA lifted on Oct. 19 the preliminary injunction against the city’s planned auction of the MWSS properties three years ago.

The city government expects to collect nearly P 300 million in back taxes from the MWSS, said Villanueva.

Among the MWSS properties subjected to payment of real property taxes are the Balara Filter Plant and the La Mesa water treatment facility.

In its ruling, the court said the MWSS was not among the agencies that could be exempted from paying real property tax. (PNA) RMA/JCA
