MANILA, Sept. 17 — Newly-installed Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Deputy Director General Raul Bacalzo on Friday got his fourth star after President Benigno S. Aquino III approved his promotion to the rank of Police Director General.

President Aquino approved the promotion of Bacalzo to the highest rank in the police service upon the recommendation of the National Police Commission.

Police Inspector Lyndon Espe of the Special Action Force, the youngest member of the PNP Officer Corps, administered the Oath of Office to Bacalzo, formalizing the chief PNP’s promotion to the four-star rank during simple ceremonies in Camp Crame Friday morning.

“I am humbled by this expression of trust and confidence by President Aquino, in my modest personal achievements to deserve this promotion,” Bacalzo said.

“My designation as Chief PNP and promotion to the highest rank in the police service will serve as driving force that will motivate and inspire me more to pursue my mission the best of my ability,” Bacalzo told members of the PNP Command Group, Directorial Staff and other police officials during the ceremony.

Bacalzo, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1977, assumed post as the 16th chief of the PNP on Tuesday upon the early retirement of Director General Jesus Verzosa effective Sept. 17.

Bacalzo is the first and so far the only PNP chief who is a member of the Philippine Bar. He ranked 12th place in the 1984 Bar examinations with a rating of 87.43 percent. (PNA) RMA/MM
