MANILA, Aug. 29 – A suspected robber was killed while his cohort escaped and two policemen were wounded after a shootout between the thieves and responding lawmen in Laguna on Saturday evening, a ranking police official said Sunday.

Quoting reports reaching the Philippine National Police’s National Operations Center (NOC), PNP spokesman Senior Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr. said the elements of the Cabuyao Municipal Police Station (MPS) are now hot on the trail for the second suspect who managed to evade pursuing policemen.

Reports showed the shootout erupted after the two suspects, riding in tandem on a motorcycle, held up couple Flaviano and Belen Dizon at around 6:20 p.m. along NIA Road in Barangay San Isidro, Cabuyao town.

The suspects carted away some P80,000 from the victims.

However, while escaping, the armed robbers were encountered by patrolling elements of the Cabuyao MPS, led by Supt. Dante Novicio, sparking an intense firefight.

Novicio and PO1 Lydlo Lajara were wounded while one of the suspects was killed and the other one escaped.

”The wounded PNP personnel were brought to the hospital for treatment,” said Cruz.

”Follow up operations are now being conducted by elements of the Cabuyao MPS and Laguna Provincial Police Office to track down the escapee,” added Cruz. (PNA)
