Enrile urges Mancao 'to name names' behind bribery attempt

MANILA, Aug. 18 –- Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile urged former Philippine National Police (PNP) Col. Cesar Mancao II on Wednesday to reveal the names of the people who allegedly attempted to bribe him to recant his testimony against fugitive Senator Panfilo Lacson.

”Who bribed? He should tell the names. Who approached him and what they told to him so that it will be cleared,” Enrile said.

Mancao claimed that he is being pressured by emissaries allegedly from the camp of Lacson to retract, in exchange of an “eight-digit” bribe, his affidavit naming Lacson as mastermind of the killings of publicist Salvador Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito in 2000.

”It will be difficult that we just believed on what he said. We have to assess what was said. How was the offer made and how much? It could be planted,” Enrile said.

Lacson remains in hiding since January when he left the country just before the Department of Justice could issue a warrant of arrest in connection with the Dacer-Corbito double-murder case. (PNA) scs/jfm
