MANILA, Aug. 5 –- Thousands of commuters waded through flooded streets in many areas of Quezon City on Thursday evening as many motorists were stuck in traffic jams along major thoroughfares in the city.

Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Tactical Operation Center (TOC) said some of the inundated areas are portions of East Avenue in Diliman, Visayas Avenue in Vasra and sidestreets of Kamuning District.

Philippines News Agency (PNA) reported portions of East Avenue particularly infront of the Social Security System (SSS) and Land Transportation Office (LTO)were flooded.

Rains began pouring at 5 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has spotted a new low pressure area, which it said could turn into a typhoon in the next few days.

This developed as tropical storm "Domeng" weakened into a tropical depression early this morning and is moving toward Cagayan. (PNA) LOR/JCA
