NABUNTURAN, Compostela Valley, July 26 — In line with the celebration of the National Disaster Consciousness Month, the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC) headed by Governor Arturo T. Uy in coordination with Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) conducted an orientation on the Updated Fault Line of Compostela Valley on Tuesday.

With the theme, “Pag alerto, malayo sa peligro”, the orientation intends to help planners, implementers and disaster managers in the formulation of prepared mitigation programs and activities in case of disasters and other emergencies hitting the province, Rodelyn Manungas, staff of the provincial information office, said.

Compostela Valley has a known fault line in the Maco-Lake Leonard, an area with a caldera lake and a volcano said to be active, according to state seismologists.

Governor Uy said residents of the province deserve to be kept abreast with information related to disaster preparedness and management “as this is necessary for us to face and respond to crises resulting from natural calamities, specifically earthquakes.”

“This will be a great help to every Comvaleno especially that the province is of no exemption when it comes to natural and even man-made disasters,” he said.

Government officials, employees as well as from the academe and the private sector attended the event being held as early as 7 a.m. at the provincial capitol here. (PNA)
