Five suspected cattle rustlers charged for killing former Kalinga broadcaster

MANILA, July 10 –Police on Friday filed murder charges against five suspected cattle rustlers in connection with the July 3 killing of Jose Daguio, a former radio announcer and commentator of DZRK Radyo ng Bayan Tabuk, Kalinga.

Chief Supt. Villamor Bumanlag, regional director of Police Regional Office-Cordillera, said the Task Force Usig, headed by Sr. Supt. Virgilio Laya, Kalinga police chief, filed the murder charges before the Kalinga Prosecutors' office.

Charged were Edmund Bilog, Willy Bilog, Lando Bilog,and brothers Daldin and Edgar Guiawan,all of Tabuk, Kalinga.

Witnesses identified Willy Bilog as the triggerman. Task Force Usig said that Daldin and Edgar Guiawan also have standing arrest warrants for the killing of Guimpayan Tamalay and Ayong Tamalay at Lapet, Talac, Gobgob, Tabuk, Kalinga on June 2, 2009.

Edgar Guiawan is now under custody of Kalinga provincial office.

The task force said the suspects shot Daguio to silence him as he had known a lot of their cattle rustling and other illegal activities in the province. <pDaguio was shot at close range with a 12-gauge shotgun inside his house in Barangay Tuga, Tabuk City, Kalinga at about 7 p.m. on July 3.

Meanwhile, the Cordillera regional police has created Task force Kalinga, headed by Sr. Supt. Elmer Soria, deputy regional director for operations, to synchronize police operations against lawlessness in Kalinga specifically in Tabuk.
