MANILA, July 7 — Valenzuela residents will be celebrating the 141st birth anniversary of Dr. Pio Valenzuela, their city's namesake, this coming July 11.

In line with this celebration, the Valenzuela City Cultural Affairs and Tourism Office will conduct a wreath-laying ceremony on the said date at the Triumvirate Monument located at the New Valenzuela City Government Complex along MacArthur Highway.

Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Alberto G. Romulo and the family of the late hero are expected to grace the ceremonies.

To pay tribute to Dr. Valenzuela's heroism, the Valenzuela City Center for the Performing Arts (VCCPA) will premiere its latest production entitled Junto Al Pasig (Beside the Pasig), a rock musical on July 12 at 2 pm and 6 pm at the Valenzuela City Center for the Performing Arts Theatre.

Admission is free.

The dance-rock musical is a modernized retelling of the one-act Zarzuela written in Spanish by Dr. Valenzuela's compatriot Dr. Jose Rizal. VCCPA's version, which is directed by Andrei Tiangco is translated by librettist Jose Jeffrey Camañag, with contemporary and alternative rock music composed by award-winning musical director Jesse Lucas, a combination of hip-hop and contemporary dance choreographed by Arnie Umayan.

The production is a three-in-one show which combines elements of dance, theatre and concert, with video and image projections designed by award-winning visual artist Nasser Lubay.(PNA)
