NP biggest election spender

MANILA, June 24 – Four political parties have submitted their respective statement of contributions and expenditures during the last election before the law department of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

The Nacionalista Party was the biggest spender during the campaign period with a total expenses of P228,701, 229 while the total amount of contributions they got reached P80 million.

The Liberal Party, where president-elect Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III belonged, was the third biggest spender as they spent P158,103,535.21 while their contributions amounted to P58,114,083.01.

According to the statement submitted by the National People’s Coalition (NPC), the party’s expenses amounted to P174,482,900.61. The group’s contributions totaled to P174.5 million.

On the other hand, administration party Lakas-Kampi did not record a surplus as they have only spent the same amount they got from their supporters amounting to P130,684,725.31.

Meanwhile, Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said winning and losing candidates, who failed to submit their statements should be ready to face the consequences of their inactions.

The candidates need to pay P30,000 for the first offense, the amount will be doubled if they failed to submit the statement for the second time.

Perjury will be biggest offense they will be facing if they were found not telling the truth on their spending since they signed the document under oath.
