MANILA, June 18 – Senate Majority Floor Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri advises former colleague and now President-elect Benigno ‘Noynoy’ Aquino to get new faces as members of his cabinet.

Zubiri made his suggestion during the National Press Club’s Meet The Press Forum last Thursday night, urging also the incoming President to pick the right people who have no questionable credibility.

”He should not choose rehash members of his cabinet specially those who have lukewarm performance,” Zubiri said.

Zubiri believed that Aquino can perform as Chief Executive not only due to his ‘good heart’ but of his dedication as lawmaker for 13 years.

”He is good in scrutinizing the budget programs of the government and I’m sure he will not shame his family’s name, being the son of a former President (Corazon Aquino),” Zubiri said.

”I hope he would get the right people for the position not because of any political mileage because you are now President for six year with no re-election. Do what you have to do and do what you think is right,” he said.

Zubiri also advised Aquino not to hire people who have been charged at the Sandiganbayan, adding the key to his success is the right choice for the right people who will comprise his cabinet.

The senator from Mindanao, however, urged the Filipino people not to immediately judge the incoming President at least in the first six months of his six-year term.

”We should give him a honeymoon period. Definitely, he can do nothing in the first six months,” Zubiri said.

Aquino is expected to announce the members of his cabinet before his oath-taking as the country’s 15th President on June 30. (PNA) RMA/jfm
