MANILA, June 9 — President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has ordered the 302 military officials, including Armed Forces chief Gen. Delfin Bangit, to continue with their duties despite being bypassed by the Commission on Appointments.

In a press briefing, Presidential Chief Legal Counsel Raul Victorino told reporters that the President has made the order through a letter. The order to go on with their responsibilities as militarymen, Victorino said, is to "prevent any hiatus in the discharge of functions and duties of their respective offices."

In the case of Bangit, Victorino said the President does not need to reappoint the controversial military official.

"As regards to Bangit's position, it is a continuing position until the end of term of the sitting president," Victorino said.

Victorino explained that the Commission on Appointments, as far as military matters is concerned, confirms the rank and not the position. (PNA)
