DPWH creates new coordination committee

MANILA, June 9 — To effectively continue the highway and bridge quality management system jointly developed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Department of Public Works and Highways, DPWH Secretary Victor Domingo has created a Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) and Technical Working Group (TWG) to sustain the remaining activities under the JICA- Technical Cooperation Project (TCP).

The JICA-TCP, dubbed as "Improvement of Quality Management for Highway and Bridge Construction and Maintenance" involves a system of roads and bridges inspection using the conduct of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) equipment and technical manuals, guidelines and procedures formulated by JICA and DPWH road and bridge experts.

In his Special Order, Domingo designated Senior Undersecretary Manuel Bonoan as Chairman of the JCC while Asst. Secretary Raul Asis as Co-chairman. Members include the Directors from the DPWH Planning Service, Bureau of Research and Standards, Bureau of Construction, Bureau of Maintenance, Cordillera Administrative Region, Region VII Office and Region XI Office.

The JCC was tasked to discuss and approve the annual work plan of the TCP based on the approved annual budget to review the overall progress and annual expenditures of the TCP as well as the achievement of the annual work plan.

Meanwhile the TWG members are designated to assist and provide technical assistance to the JCC and serve as pool of trainers to conduct On-the-Job Trainings on the TCP quality management system.

The TWG/Training Team will be composed of TCP counterparts such as road/bridge construction, maintenance and quality control, which are grouped according to their specialization.(PNA) LOR/LBV
