MANILA, April 30 — An official of Smartmatic-Total Information Management (TIM) has assured that the delivery of election paraphernalia to be used in the May 10, 2010 national and local elections will be completed ahead of schedule.

Cesar Flores, Smartmatic Asia-Pacific president, said the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines, ballot boxes, ballots and other election materials will be in the different hubs this week, except in the National Capital Region (NCR).

He noted that as of April 29, at least 50 percent of the more than 50 million official ballots from the Philippine Postal Corporation warehouse and the National Printing Office (NPO) had been delivered.

The Smartmatic official said that in Mindanao, over 90 percent of the election paraphernalia have already been dispatched and almost 60 percent are already at the municipal treasurer’s offices.

Flores said that the last batch of the 82,200 PCOS for areas outside Metro Manila will be shipped out on Saturday, May 1.

The last area set for the distribution of the machines and election materials is the National Capital Region, where the delivery will be conducted next week.

“Since it’s the nearest one from the central hub, the NCR will be the last one to get the election materials,” Flores said. (PNA) scs/FGP/utb
