Employers support parallel manual count

MANILA, April 27 — The Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) believes in the integrity of the automated election and the sincerity of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) officials to ensure clean and honest elections.

But in any computerized system, redundancy of back-ups is important to protect the election’s integrity and reliability, ECOP said.

A parallel manual count of all votes for president on May 10 as approved by the COMELEC and jointly carried out with the private sector will assuage fears of election failure and enhance the integrity of the machines and raise the comfort level of the electorate.

Thus, ECOP urges the COMELEC and the private sector to get together soonest and install the needed infrastructure to carry out the manual counting system. (PNA)
