Veruela, Agusan del Sur, April 26 –- Provincial officials, in behalf of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo who missed an event here after her helicopter flight was cancelled due to poor visibility, formally inaugurated the Jose Vicente A. Del Rosario concrete girder bridge that is expected boost the socio-economic growth of this far-flung municipality.

Former Agusan del Sur Governor Adolf Edward Plaza led the ribbon-cutting rites signaling the opening of the bridge for the Veruela municipality residents. He represented the President who was supposed to come from Kalawit, Zamboanga where she led another government project launch.

Due to incremental weather which caused zero visibility at the Bancasi Airport in Butuan City, Agusan del Sur, the President’s party decided to fly back to Manila.

The bridge is a single lane 140 linear meter pre-stressed concrete girder (pscg) bridge constructed over the Agusan river with bridge approaches, slope protection of four spans of 35.00 linear meters each with 3 piers supported by circular columns footing on pipes.

Named in honor of the late Veruela Mayor Jose Vicente del Rosario, the bridge connects the municipalities of Veruela and Bunawan without the need to pass through the municipalities of Sta. Josefa and Trento.

With the construction of the bridge, farmers and locals can save up to one hour of travel time from Veruela to Bunawan and in transporting their agricultural products.

The said bridge construction started on September 27, 2008 and was completed on April 20, 2010. (PNA) V3/OPS/utb
