MANILA, April 21 – The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) on Wednesday said it has distributed relief goods to fire victims in Butuan City.

PRC secretary general Gwendolyn Pang said a big fire ravaged a barangay in Butuan City in late March this year, affecting approximately 550 families.

“When the summer months set in, the number of fire cases tremendously increases due to the scorching heat and faulty electrical connections. Thus, Fire Prevention Month is held every March to educate the people on fire safety and prevention,” Pang said.

“The fire victims in Butuan City lost not just their properties but also some of their loved ones. We need to boost our efforts to disseminate tips on fire safety and prevention so that even the people in far-flung places such as Butuan are reached,” said Pang. (PNA)
