MANILA, April 21 – President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo Wednesday conferred the Presidential Award of Excellence on 13 sea-based and land-based agencies “in recognition of their consistent excellent performance in providing decent and gainful employment to overseas Filipino workers” at Malacañang’s Rizal Hall.

Last year, overseas remittances totalled $ 17.3 billion, a major factor in the country’s continued positive growth despite the global economic meltdown.

Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) administrator Jennifer Jardin-Manalili said the presidential awards were the first ones given since the grant of agency awards in 1984.

The presidential awards of excellence were given to nine agencies in the sea-based sector.

These were BSM Crew Service Centre Phils., Inc., Career Phils. Shipmanagement, Inc., Inter-Orient Maritime Enterprises, Inc., Jebsens Maritime, Inc., Magsaysay Maritime Corp., Nyk-Filship Management, Inc., Philippine Transmarine Carriers, Inc., Stolt-Nielsen Phils., Inc., and Wallem Maritime Services, Inc.,

Four awardees from the land-based sector were EEI Corp., Industrial Personnel & Management Services, Inc., Manpower Resources of Asia, Inc., and Omanfil International Manpower Development Corp.

The Top Performers and Awardees of Excellence will be announced and awarded on April 29 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).

A total of 37 recruitment agencies will be honored for their outstanding performance in the overseas employment industry for the period 2005 to 2009, the POEA head said. (PNA) LDV/OPS/utb
