MANILA, April 12 – Supreme Court (SC) Associate Justice Antonio Carpio on Monday said he has no intention to attend the public interview to be conducted by the Judicial and Bar Council in Baguio City on April 19-20, 2010 for the six nominees for the Chief Justice post.

In a one-page letter to the JBC, Carpio reiterated that he is not interested to take part in the public interview by the JBC.

Earlier, the JBC invited Carpio and the other five nominees for the soon-to-be-vacated position of Chief Justice.

Chief Justice Reynato Puno will retire on May 17, 2010.

The other aspirants are SC Associate Justices Conchita Carpio-Morales, Renato Corona, Teresita Leonardo-de Castro and Arturo Brion, and Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Edilberto Sandoval.

Earlier, Carpio stated that he would only participate in the JBC nomination process if the appointment for the next Chief Justice will be made by the next President.

Morales echoed Carpio's sentiment, saying she would only accept the JBC nomination if the appointment would be made by the next President. (PNA)
