Bantay Bayan member nabbed for gun ban violation in Pampanga

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, April 3 — A Bantay Bayan member in this city was arrested for illegal possession of firearm in violation of the Omnibus Election Code last Friday.

Police Chief Inspector Fernando Lansangan identified the suspect as Virgilio Mamucud, 56, married and resident of No. 5, Purok Tagumpay, Barangay Sindalan, this city.

Confiscated from the suspect is a Taurus caliber .45 pistol with one magazine loaded with six live ammunition.

A certain Engineer Rommel Salvador personally reported to police authorities the commotion created by the suspect who was seen carrying a firearm while reportedly under the influence of liquor.

A police team composed of PO3 Arnold Barrion, PO1 Robert Vergara, PO1 Vincent dela Cruz and PO1 Harold King Amaqui immediately went to the area where they apprehended the suspect.

Mamucud was charged with illegal possession of firearm and is now under police custody with a recommended bail of P12,000 for his temporary liberty.

Under a Commission on Elections (Comelec) resolution, carrying of firearms, explosives and other weapons in public is prohibited until June 9 in connection with the coming May 10, 2010 polls. (PNA) scs/zst/JM/ps
