MANILA, March 31 – Thousands of Catholic devotees on Holy Wednesday afternoon joined solemn processions in many parts of Quezon City especially in Novaliches.

The event serves as a prelude to the more elaborate and long rituals traditionally held on Good Friday.

The Catholic faithful holding lighted candles followed the carriages carrying the images that depict the Passion of Christ through the main streets of Novaliches, particularly Gen. Luis Street and Quirino Highway.

Young and old devotees recited the Holy Rosary during the procession. The processions were also held in other parts of Metro Manila and key cities of the country.

In Pateros, Metro Manila several holy images representing the Passion of Christ were part of the procession today except the images of the Pieta, Christ being brought down from the cross, and the Santo Sepulcro (dead Christ) which will be brought out on Good Friday.

Regular mass schedules were held in several Catholic churches today while confessional services have been extended to encourage the faithful to avail of the sacrament of Penance.

The Church reminds the faithful to do acts of charity, to reflect, and to perform personal sacrifices like fasting and abstinence. (PNA)
