MANILA, March 28 – A poll watchdog and churches in Cavite plan to set up help desk to help voters find their assigned precinct for the May 10, 2010 national and local polls.

Fr. Joe Dizon of Kontra Daya said that the priests in Cavite, through the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), were looking at putting up the help desk in churches this Holy Week, to take advantage of the faithful since they will be flocking to churches in celebration of the Lenten Season.

“They want to set up a help desk because they want to take advantage of the big number of people that will go to church this Holy Week,” he said.

However, Dizon said the project might not push through unless they got the assistance of the Comelec for the copies of the voters list.

“They cannot get the voters list. They need to pay a certain amount in order to get a copy. Why do we need to pay when all we want to do is help?” he said.

Dizon said that the poll body would be considerate as the group was doing them a favor by helping them in their job.

He was confident that with their endeavor they would be able to help and reach a big number of voters.

“Because it’s Holy Week I’m sure even those not attending Mass will also go there to check their precinct number,” Dizon said.

The Comelec earlier said it would send, starting in April, the voter information sheets (VIS)to all voters to familiarize them with the new ballot as well as to inform them of their precinct number and polling place.

Also included in the VIS is the sample ballot, where the names of the national candidates and local candidates in their area are listed.

The voter can bring the VIS to the polling precinct on Election Day, as it may serve as a sample ballot. (PNA) RMA/FGP/utb
