PANIQUI, Tarlac, March 26 — Tens of thousands of locals here momentarily dropped what they were doing, and spilled out into the streets, crowding marketplaces, and other major thoroughfares to welcome once again their hometown hero, Lakas-Kampi-CMD standard bearer Gilberto "Gibo" Teodoro Jr., on Friday.

A blizzard of green confetti, ear-splitting cheers and music, this was how Tarlaqueños showed their support for the former Defense Secretary in his epic journey to the May 10 presidential elections.

Gibo earlier visited a slew of Tarlac municipalities including Tarlac City, Sta. Ignacia, Camiling, and Paniqui, among others.

The Lakas-Kampi-CMD standard bearer proceeded to his home province Tarlac after a "Green Day" motorcade this morning around Metro Manila as the party's opening salvo of campaigning for local candidates.

"Ang Tarlac ay 100 percent sumusuporta kay Gibo, kaya hindi ako naniniwala sa mga sinasabi sa surveys (Tarlac is 100 percent in support of Gibo, that’s why I don’t believe in those surveys)," said Vice Gov. Bogs Aganon.

In Metro Manila, the metropolis also turned green as thousands of Gibo supporters lined its major thoroughfares for the launching of "Green Day," which was highlighted by the signing of a "Green Covenant" by Gibo, his running mate former Optical Media Board (OMB) chair Eduardo "Edu" Manzano, and the six administration senatorial bets.

The Covenant commits them to pursue pro-poor policies, ensure clean government that is always "on the go" to respond promptly to the nation’s needs, consistent economic growth, a sustainable environment, hope for a bright future and love of country and people.

Gibo will later attend a grand rally in Cebu organized by Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia. (PNA)
