MANILA, Jan. 26 –- Senate Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel Jr. apologized on Tuesday for his “insertion” joke at the height of a heated Senate debate on whether to adopt the committee report that censured senator Manny Villar for his unethical conduct when he influenced the realignment of the C-5 road project.

”To those who I might have hurt in this Chamber by the use of intemperance language or unseemly expressions, I apologize and bet for their forgiveness thru you, Lord,” Pimentel uttered in his opening prayer during the Senate session.

During Monday’s debate on the committee of the whole report on C-5 road inquiry, Pimentel unleashed unsavory remark when he commented on Senator Mar Roxas’ defense that he no insertion in the national budget.

”After your marriage, you will have your insertions,” Pimentel quipped, drawing the ire of Roxas who was recently married to broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez.

Roxas shouted and demanded that the remark of Pimentel be removed from the journal record.

Pimentel immediately requested to remove his remark that drew criticisms from various sectors.

Akbayan Rep. Risa Hontiveros said Pimentel should apologize to Roxas and Sanchez for his “insertion” joke.

“As a woman, I am asking Sen. Pimentel to apologize over his insertion joke. It was absolutely uncalled for, irrelevant and it should not have been said at all, especially by a Senator who has a well-respected reputation as a freedom fighter,” Hontiveros said in inquirer.net report.

Hontiveros is running for the Senate under the Liberal Party, the rival of Villar's Nacionalista Party. (PNA)
