COTABATO CITY, Jan. 6 — Unidentified men ransacked the provincial office of the Commission on Elections over the weekend inside the Maguindanao provincial capital, an election official said.

Estrellita Orbase, Maguindanao election supervisor, said her office was believed to have been ransacked by still unidentified suspects anytime before Jan. 4.

It was only made public Wednesday or two days after the discovery.

She said she found out that her office was burglarized when she reported for work on January 4, Monday.

"Probably the robbery took place in late December or early January," she said, adding that she last reported to office on Dec. 29.

Orbase said among the missing items were kitchen utensils, some office curtains and water dispenser.

"No items of high value were taken," she said, adding that the office computer units remained intact.

The Comelec provincial office is located some 50 meters away from the Maguindanao provincial capitol in Poblacion Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao.

The capitol compound has been guarded by soldiers and policemen since the declaration of Martial Law on December 5 and lifted a week later.

"I have no idea who were the robbers but they have left foot prints on office tables and sala sets," Orbase said. (PNA)
