COTABATO CITY, Jan. 6 – Police authorities here are puzzled over the discovery of a police patrol car abandoned in Barangay Bubong, this city on Tuesday night.

Senior Supt. Willie Dangane, city police director, said a a Toyota hi-lux police car was carnapped in Iligan City and brought to Cotabato City then abandoned it in a secluded area.

It took about an hour before police and Army bomb experts with bomb sniffing dogs checked on the vehicle (SJR-938) for possible ordnance and explosives.

"This is the first time to witness in my police career that a police patrol car with police markings was carnapped and managed to travel from Iligan to Cotabato City without being detected," Dangane said.

He said the patrol car was assigned with the municipality of Madamba, Lanao del Sur and was used by the town mayor and the Madamba police in going to Iligan City.

Dangane said investigators have no idea so far who was behind the carnapping. (PNA) LAP/NYP/EOF
